Listening
Lacanian Psychoanalysis | Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Coming to psychoanalysis starts with wanting to speak.
Psychoanalysis is a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for those who want to speak and have the willingness to explore their thoughts and feelings openly.

A myth about the decision to reach psychoanalysis is that you need to be undergoing a life crisis to speak about what troubles you or that it is only people with a mental health diagnoses that need it. Suffering in its identifiable and familiar forms – anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, amongst others – is certainly a reason to come for psychoanalysis. Yet, the desire to understand oneself better, explore one’s desires and beliefs, free oneself from problematic patterns of behaviour, learn to tolerate conflict better, finding new means of self-realisation and a more fulfilling life can also be great reasons to enter psychoanalysis.
Unlike other forms of therapy like CBT that focus on the symptoms, psychoanalysis does not offer advice, self-improvement techniques or evaluations and it is not ‘psycho-education’.
Psychoanalysis, particularly the Lacanian way in which we work, is a space for open exploration through your unique ways of expressing yourself in language. We carefully follow the threads you bring and untangle the knots that prevent you from leading a more coherent life.
The analyst will listen to you with no judgment. The idea is that through time, you learn to listen to yourself in the same way.
The Process

The Process •
01 | Meeting One Another
A free first face-to-face 30-minute consultation for us to meet one another and discuss the possibilities of working together.
02 | Choosing the Right Match
Psychoanalysis is a relationship – very different to any other you know, but matching right is essential for it to work. If we are not the right match, but you’re interested in the process, I will happily refer you to a colleague.
03 | Deciding on the Fees
Money has a symbolic value in psychoanalysis. We have a sliding scale payment system, which means individuals pay according to their circumstances. We have a set fee of £90 a session, but this fee will be discussed at our initial consultation.
04 | Committing to the Work
Treatment takes time, and both analyst and analysand need to commit to work together. We would usually meet once or twice a week, depending on specific circumstances. The average session lasts up to 50 minutes.
Shall we pick up the thread?
Whether you seek to untangle the knots of your thoughts, room or wardrobe, every process at Life Atelier starts with a conversation. We invite you to reach out and schedule an initial consultation to discuss the possibilities of working together.
